Here is a design that Paul at Bikes and More suggested. This page has been updated with some photos from a new one that turned out very well. I think it is very functional for a mountain bike handlebar bag. For touring bikes, the brakes will hinder easy access to the side pockets, so a future version for a touring bike will have a different pocket configuration. A rear mount is possible, but with the current design the bag tends to tip in. If it is used with a bed roll or other gear to support it, it would work well behind the saddle.
